Guest Artist Lesson (EP004): Exploring Emotions Through Art Therapy with Mirella Issaias

At RTSY The Creative School of Art we are always looking for meaningful ways to inspire creativity and personal growth in our students.

Our recent guest artist session focused on art therapy with Art Psychotherapist, artist, and educator Mirella Issaias offered a truly unique and enriching experience for our RTSY Saturday Art Course students.

Art Psychotherapist Mirella Issaias, whose career spans over 30 years, brings a wealth of knowledge in both art and mental wellbeing. With a Master’s degree in Art Psychotherapy and a background in Graphic Design, Mirella has dedicated her career to helping individuals explore creativity as a powerful tool for expression, reflection, and healing. Event Highlights:

Expressive Art Through Emotion: This special session encouraged students to move beyond technical perfection and instead focus on creativity guided by their feelings and instincts.

Draw Yourself as a Tree: Students were invited to create a self-portrait in the form of a tree, using any materials they felt drawn to. This open-ended prompt led to a wonderful variety of interpretations—from graceful willow trees to delicate cherry blossoms—each one deeply personal and symbolic.

Reflection and Storytelling: One of the most impactful moments of the workshop was hearing students share the meaning behind their artwork. Their thoughtful reflections brought each piece to life, highlighting the emotional depth and individuality of their creations.

Mirella Issaias' visit was a powerful reminder of the importance of art as more than just a visual practice—it is a tool for understanding ourselves and connecting with others. Her session created a safe and inspiring space where students could express themselves freely and confidently.
